What can I say… Wow this musical was fantastic, held at the Melba Spiegeltent in Collingwood AAICOA focused on the hollywood star besotted Liz ‘audrey’ O’Sulivan (played by the amazing Kelly Cupo) and her journey through life. Liz is the main focus and essentially leads the entire show , Cudos to you Kelly. As all of us do, Liz has ‘voices’ in her head of family, past lovers, therapists that comment on the situation at hand. Audrey Hepburn act as her conscious, giving her the wisdom and guidance of Audrey’s best and finest advice in a “What Would Audrey Do?” manner. As she goes through the motions of growing up ,the people around Liz pressure her to become this person of who they think she should be. Liz finds her way through life in relationships trying to ‘find a real man’, family complications and self, holding onto her life motos such as ‘I Believe in Pink’.
Featuring 14 original songs played by a four piece band and featuring a stunning choir (The Grace Note Singers). The band were incredible, the score, lyrics were fabulous darling and suited the quirkiness of the characters, style and atmosphere.
The director talked to the audience reminding them the importance of supporting Australian theatre as it is ‘ a rare beast’... as a theatre lover myself I am in complete agreeance. Australia has so many incredible shows, productions and film that isn’t known or supported.
Audrey and I Consider Our Assets is a fabulous Melbourne born and bred musical and I personally would love to see this on a larger stage and setting. So YES go and support more Aussie Theatre, we have so much talent to give and receive… Happy Theatre-ing
